Word Play

My favorite online comic is Penny Arcade, which has itself a nice link on the right sidebar there. The site is run by a couple of geek gamers and the comics often are about videogames. Sometimes, however, they venture into the land of pure absurdity and other time they just find themselves in a sea of blatant violence. Sometimes, both. Almost always, though, the comics are funny and often times the accompanying posts are just as funny.

Today's comic, however, finds itself in the world of linguistics. As Tycho (the writer in the duo) writes in the comic's accompanying post:

Someone told us once that comics about words were not, I repeat, not funny, and I really have to stress that such comments only serve to exacerbate the problem.

The first comic he links to under "not funny" is pretty amusing. However, the second comic linked, which is today's comic, is hilarious. Or it is to me, anyway. What can I say? I'm a writer; I love word play.

If you like what you see, browse the archive. You'll probably laugh your ass off. Particularly if you play video and computer games and have a general knowledge of the industry, though that isn't usually a requirement. You can typically get the jokes even if you're not a big gamer.

Funny, funny, funny, hilarious, funny.

There's also an ongoing gag with a watch. You should check it out in order.
