Let's Talk Music
This comes from Michele, and apparently a hundred other people.
10 albums randomly selected from my collection:
Thursday - Full Collapse
Thursday is one of my favorite bands and it doesn't get better than Full Collapse, which is the album that introduced me to them. This is emo with quite a bit of screaming, but these guys are absolutely amazing. The lead singer sounds like he's drowning in his own mind half the time. Incredible.
The Cure - The Cure
I was surprised at how much I liked their new album. I mean, most everything they've done is very cool, but the new album was surprisingly fresh. They incorporated some more recent musical trends, updated their sound to a degree, and it worked very well.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Once More, With Feeling
This is the soundtrack from the musical episode of Buffy. Sheer, utter brilliance. That's all I'll say.
The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
I danced around this album for months until Garden State finally caused me to just pick it up. I don't regret it in the least. These guys are awesome. Upbeat and mellow at the same time. The music comes off initially as very happy, but the songs become more on multiple listenings. Their previous album, Oh, Inverted World, is also great.
Finger Eleven - The Greyest of Blue Skies
Great, great album. It has a nice, unpolished feel to it. The strength of this album got them onto the Wind Up label, but the new album they put out with them isn't nearly as good as this one. The album is vaguely haunting, the songs build, it's depressing, it gets under your skin. Hard to explain.
At The Drive-In - In-Casino-Out
Damn, these guys can rock. I am quite sad they broke up.
Matchbox Twenty - More Than You Think You Are
I don't know why I'm such a sucker for these guys, but I just am. I like songs about screwed up relationships and Matchbox Twenty knows how to make those kinds of songs. This is really solid, mainstream music.
Rage Against the Machine - The Battle of Los Angeles
I suspect most people either love Rage or hate them. But if you love them, this is one hell of an album.
Crooked Fingers - Crooked Fingers
I listen to this album and feel like I'm in an Irish bar. I don't even know if that makes sense. I've never been in an Irish bar.
The Faint - Wet From Birth
Electronic dance music. It just works.
